EMSE Ph.D. student selected for best paper

Hadi Fahrangi, Ph.D. student in systems engineering, has been selected for the IISE ISERC Best Paper-Operations Research Track — at an upcoming annual meeting. Fahrangi’s paper is titled “A Separation Method for the Multi-objective Set Covering Problem” and is advised by Dr. Dincer Konur, assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering.

Faculty First Friday this week

The final Faculty First Friday lunch of the semester will be held Friday, May 6. These informal lunches provide an opportunity to network and share ideas with faculty colleagues and university administration. The brown-bag lunch will be held noon-1 p.m. at Hasselmann Alumni House, located at 1100 N. Pine St. Participants should bring their own lunch, and the chancellor’s office will provide drinks and desserts. The next lunch will be held on Friday, Sept. 2.

Douglas P. Roberts named chief of S&T Police

Douglas P. Roberts, assistant special agent in charge for the St. Louis Field Office of the U.S. Secret Service, has been named chief of University Police at Missouri S&T. He replaces Raymon Bogart, who had served in an interim role since former Chief Christine Laughlin retired in 2015. Roberts’ position takes effect June 1.

Visitation for Dr. Steven L. Grant, the Roy A. Wilkens Missouri Telecommunications Professor in electrical and computer engineering at Missouri S&T, will be held 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 2, at Null and Son Funeral Home, located at 1010 Kingshighway in Rolla. Dr. Grant’s Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Rolla. Interment will follow the mass at Rolla Cemetery.

All students are welcome to attend and enjoy ice cream sundaes from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at the Puck. The Focus on Teaching and Technology Conference (FTTC) planning committee invites you to submit a proposal for the 2016 conference, which will be held Nov. 3-4 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The committee is seeking presenters who can offer both a vision of the impact and importance of their topic and concrete, practical examples of real-world implementation.
