Problems with Blackboard and IE 11

Education technology (EdTech) and information technology (IT) are working to resolve reported compatibility issues between Blackboard and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 11. IE 11 will unexpectedly crash when attempting to login to Blackboard. If you encounter any problems using IE 11 in combination with Blackboard, Joe’SS/PeopleSoft or any other web-based applications, use a different browser such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or Apple Safari.

Black History Month celebration

A night of music, spoken word, strolling, dance and other performance arts celebrating the 2014 Black History Month theme of Honor, Hurdles and Heroes will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall. There will be a keynote address and light reception to follow. The event is co-sponsored by leadership and cultural programs and student diversity, outreach and women’s programs.

The new Jim Crow discussion

Poetry seminar series

2014 Maxwell C. Weiner Distinguished Professor of Humanities Charlotte Matthews will host a poetry seminar series from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the English and technical communication library, Room 225 Humanities and Social Sciences Building. The group, open to students, faculty and staff, will look at contemporary poems and see what makes them tick. Later, the group may take on a workshop format with participants submitting original work for feedback. The first meeting will be on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Snacks will be provided.

St. Pat’s Door Decorating Contest

All participants in the St. Pat’s Door Decorating Contest must fill out an entry form and submit it to Jacee Wood by 1 p.m. Friday, March 7. You may register your door as single- or multiple-occupant office. Doors must include the following: “106th Annual,” “Best Ever St. Pat’s,” “2014,” three shamrocks, “Missouri S&T,” two snakes and at least two different official 2014 St. Pat’s merchandise items. Doors will be judged on the amount of green, including all of the previously listed items, double shamrocks or snakes, extra merchandise items, creativity, humor and tradition or artifacts. Doors will be judged on March 11, and winners will be announced March 12, during St. Pat’s Court Arrival.
