‘Green’ systems is subject of lecture
The Environmental Research Center and the office of sustainable energy and environmental engagement will present a St. Pat’s week talk by Kevin Palmer, director of the Center for Sustainable Solutions in Charlottesville, Va. The electrical and computer engineering Gamma Theta chapter of Eta Kappa Nu (IEEE-HKN) was co-winner in the 2012-2013 Outstanding Chapter Activities Award Program. The chancellor and the provost have charged six committees to work on the transition planning for implementing the College of Engineering and Computing and the College of Arts, Sciences and Business and the vice provost and dean of each college. View the committees, charges and tentative timelines on the provost’s website. The first of two open forums will be held 3-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, in Room 120 Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall. Come and listen to the preliminary recommendations and voice your input.

Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan, chair of chemical and biochemical engineering, was featured in the “Movers & Shakers” section of the February 2014 issue of The Catalyst Review research journal. Al-Dahhan wrote an article describing the role of catalytic multiphase reactors in green chemical manufacturing processes.

Read More »Cincinnati-Rolla joint research awarded
A team led by Dr. Daniel Oerther, the John A. and Susan Mathes Chair of Environmental Engineering at S&T, earned first place in the 15th annual Graduate Student Poster Competition at the University of Cincinnati with a poster titled “Why Crowdsourcing-Based Work Will Eliminate Global Poverty.” Other members of the team include Andrew Schriner, a doctoral candidate at Cincinnati, who is co-advised by Oerther, and by Dr. Jim Uber, professor of energy, environmental, biological and medical engineering at Cincinnati. More than 130 entries were included in the competition.

A variety of sample furniture has been delivered to the Curtis Laws Wilson Library. It will be available until spring break for visitors to try out. Sample a variety of individual seats, collaborative tables, mediascapes and whiteboards as part of a study of library space. Comment opportunities accompany the sample furniture.
