The ninth annual Missouri S&T Student Art Show, titled “Miner Muses,” will be on display Friday, May 9, through Thursday, May 15, in the Havener Center. This will include drawings, paintings, block prints, digital art, sculptures and ceramics from the entire year of art classes.

IT says stop using Internet Explorer

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is discouraging the use any version of the Internet Explorer web browser until a serious security flaw is resolved. Missouri S&T’s information technology asks all faculty, staff and students to discontinue use of the Internet Explorer browser immediately.

Faculty Social and Welcome Event

The campus faculty and administrators are invited to attend the Faculty Social and Welcome Event that will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in St. Pat’s Ballroom A of the Havener Center. Physics students achieve nuclear fusion

Three physics undergraduates achieved nuclear fusion of deuterium into helium. The students, Jaykob Maser, Sheldon Harper and Brock Ebert, working in the Physics Advanced Laboratory class under the supervision of Dr. Greg Story, produced fusion of deuterium in a plasma experiment. They confirmed that they had achieved fusion by detecting the production of neutrons in the plasma. Results of their experiment will be discussed at the Fuller Prize talks, 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, May 1, in the lobby of the Physics Building, and at the Physics Advanced Laboratory final presentations, 1-3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 8, in the physics fully library.

Bike to Work Day is May 9

May is National Bike Month, so Missouri S&T will support all bicyclists that show up at the Bike to Work Day tent with bagels, fruit and prizes for those riding to work. The tent will be open from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday, May 9, on the grassy area in between Toomey Hall and Parker Hall. For more information, email Aaron Enz.

Dr. Greg Story book release

A release party for Dr. Greg Story’s novel Third and Main will be held 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 2, at the Public House Brewery, located at 600 N. Rolla St., in Rolla. The novel tells the story of a small town near the Oregon coast through the evolution of one building on the corner of Third and Main streets, and all the lives that intersect in that building.
