Nationally competitive scholarship and fellowship applications have opened for the David Boren Scholarship, Barry Goldwater Award and Udall Foundation Award. Sophomores and juniors can apply for these opportunities. Campus deadlines are in early January 2017, so encourage students to get started now.

Preview surplus auction items Sept. 22

Items that will be sold at the upcoming surplus property auction will be available for preview 1-4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, and 7-10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23. The auction will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23. Bidders should bring a photo ID and plan to arrive early to sign up for a bid number.

Flu shot clinic begins Oct. 6

The flu season is coming, and Healthy for Life is offering flu shot clinics on campus. Missouri S&T faculty, staff, dependents (12 years and older, accompanied by an adult) and retirees who are enrolled in a University of Missouri System medical plan can have a flu shot covered by their insurance. All other faculty and staff can get flu shots for $20 to be paid by cash or check. The clinics will be held as follows:

Mentoring Mondays return to campus today

Due to the popularity of the Mentoring Monday program this spring, the university’s colleges are continuing it for the fall starting Monday, Sept. 19. The program, which will meet 2-3 p.m. Mondays in the Silver and Gold Room of the Havener Center, invites faculty working on a proposal to attend with six copies of their one-page statement of work in hand and get feedback from senior researchers.

Surplus property losing building; public auction Sept. 23

Surplus property will lose its building at the end of the month. The University of Missouri System has directed that all pickups be put on hold until after the building is cleared out. To aid in the removal of items, there will be a public auction starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at the surplus building located at 301 N. Bishop Ave. in Rolla. If you plan to attend, please bring a photo ID and plan to arrive early to sign up for a bidder’s number.

Hands-on faculty Canvas workshop set for Oct. 6

“Faculty Helping Faculty With Canvas,” a hands-on workshop, will be held noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in Room 103 Curtis Laws Wilson Library. This is a chance for faculty to hear from other faculty about tips and tricks to get started with Canvas, moving content, combining courses, configuring settings and notifications, and answering any questions instructors may have from those who have already made the switch from Blackboard.
