Large power and water outage May 31
A planned power outage will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 31, for construction work in the campus electric substation associated with the geothermal energy project. Affected buildings are listed below. The outage is expected to last 10 hours. Secure any laboratory equipment as required. The following buildings will be without power during this time:

As a result of the continuing increase in demand for testing services, rooms G-12 and G-13 in Norwood Hall will come online as part of the Testing Center before the start of the fall semester. These rooms will replace the main testing area in Room 201 Norwood. The current reduced-distraction space located in Room 203 Norwood remains unchanged.

The Miners’ Golf Course and Rolla Parks and Recreation are teaming up to offer a summer golf league starting June 2. The league will be an opportunity to meet new golfers and have an entertaining evening. The league will feature a weekly scramble for six weeks. Three-person teams will be determined by a random drawing every week. At the end of the league, prizes will be given to the top three players based on weekly team scores.

Information technology (IT) will update web browser software on all IT-managed machines this week. Updates will run when the machine is turned on but not in use. Due to the planned power outage scheduled for Saturday, May 31, IT asks all faculty, staff and students to power down campus computers this Friday, May 30. Machines powered down or off the campus network at the time of update will attempt to perform the update at the next opportunity. For assistance or to check the validity of this message, contact the IT Help Desk by calling 341-4357 (HELP), visit the Walk-In Center on the first floor of the Curtis Laws Wilson Library or submit a ticket online at help.mst.edu.

Faculty participation is vital when the university welcomes new students to campus in August. There will be more than 1,200 new students on campus for the 2014 Opening Week orientation. Interested faculty will meet and have lunch with the student mentor groups and discuss faculty expectations and classroom respect. The goal of this activity is to facilitate a positive interaction between new students and faculty. This is your chance to give new students tips on how to be successful in the classroom. The faculty interaction with new students will be from Tuesday, Aug. 19, through Thursday, Aug. 21.

Missouri S&T will host four Preview, Registration and Orientation (PRO) sessions in June. Help welcome new students and their guests to the Missouri S&T campus on: Friday, June 6; Monday, June 9; Friday, June 13; and Friday, June 20. There will also be a PRO session on Saturday, Aug. 16. PRO is an all-day orientation program for new students who plan to start classes at Missouri S&T in the fall 2014 semester. PRO Resource Fairs will be held from 12:30-3 p.m. in the Havener Center in June.
