S&T soccer weekend games relocated

Ebola advisory

The Centers for Disease Control has issued a travel advisory for West Africa due to the current Ebola epidemic. All faculty, staff and students who have traveled to the affected regions of Africa in recent months are advised to review the Ebola fact sheet on the student health website and take all precautions necessary to avoid contracting the disease.

Graduate Fair is Oct. 1

Graduate studies will host its seventh annual Graduate Fair 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, in the Havener Center atrium. The fair is designed to educate current undergraduate students about S&T’s graduate degree programs. Representatives from each department that offers graduate degree programs will be present to answer questions. Graduate studies will also provide information from administrative departments such as admissions, financial aid and more. Attendees may enter to win door prizes.

Digital art in Leach Theatre

The first digital art show at Missouri S&T will open with a reception at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the Leach Theatre Lobby of Castleman Hall. Pieces made by local artists Paula Sanders and Dr. David Summers will be on display throughout the semester. Refreshments will be provided during the reception and the event is free and open to the public.

The fall 2014 Center for Educational Research and Teaching Innovation (CERTI) newsletter, celebrating excellence in teaching at S&T, is now available online. The issue features “Passing on the gift of mentoring” by Dr. Yinfa Ma, an interview about teaching and learning with Dr. Stephen Roberts and Dr. Ian Ferguson, the new vice provost and deans, how Dr. Joe Stanley went from an “almost” certified public accountant to an award-winning electrical and computer engineering faculty member, and several faculty members honored with teaching and University of Missouri System awards. The newsletter is produced bi-annually by CERTI.

CDSW fall therapy groups

Counseling, disability support and student wellness (CDSW) groups are confidential and life enhancing. They offer support groups for students with ADHD or Asperger’s, an ongoing general therapy group and a three-week Test Anxiety Workshop. Healthy for Life invites the campus community to join a program with three decades of research showing its effectiveness at helping people who are coping with job or family-related stress, depression, anxiety or other medical problems. The eight-week “Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program” provides tools for responding to the stress associated with illness and everyday life with greater skill and creativity using formal mindfulness techniques and information about stress, communication and wellness.
