Faculty get grants to advance AI-enhanced teaching, learning

Missouri S&T’s online learning and educational innovation team has awarded a new round of Innovation Grants for Strategic Educational Transformation to support faculty projects exploring responsible uses of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.

The grants will fund projects that examine how AI can enhance student learning, strengthen assessment practices, build AI fluency and prepare students for workplaces increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence. Recipients will implement and assess their innovations during the 2026-27 academic year and share findings that may inform future teaching and curricular development across the university.

Awardees include:

  • Dr. Alexander Douglas, assistant teaching professor of mining and explosives engineering
  • Dr. Jossalyn Gale, assistant professor of English and technical communication
  • Dr. C.J. Lungstrum, assistant teaching professor of mathematics and statistics
  • Dr. Vadym Mochalin, associate professor of chemistry
  • Dr. Daniel B. Oerther, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering (two projects)
  • Dr. Daniel Reardon, professor of English and technical communication and associate dean for academic affairs for the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education
  • Dr. David Wright, professor of English and technical communication.
