Whether you’re heading to class, grabbing lunch or exploring downtown Rolla, help keep yourself and others safe by following pedestrian crossing rules.

Rolla City Ordinance 4885 (Chapter 36-106) outlines the following requirements for pedestrians:

• Cross arterial roadways only at intersections and within designated crosswalks.
• Obey pedestrian crossing signals when available. If no pedestrian signal is present, follow the traffic signal.
• At intersections without traffic signals, stop and look both ways before crossing. Cross only after vehicles have stopped to allow you to proceed.
• Cross roadways at a 90-degree angle rather than crossing diagonally.

The Rolla Police Department may increase enforcement of these requirements in response to recent safety concerns and complaints.
