This month, Staff Council spotlights Austin Wall, Staff Council vice president and solution architect for information technology.

Austin first came to Missouri S&T as a student in 2015 and joined the university full time in October 2018. While working full time, he continued his education, earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science in spring 2022.

Leadership and service have long been important to Austin. As a student, he served as an officer in several student organizations and as a member-at-large of Student Council. His interest in supporting others led him to Staff Council, where he continues to serve the campus community and advocate for his fellow employees.

As Staff Council vice president, Austin supports the council president and gains experience that will prepare him to serve as president in the future. He also represents Missouri S&T on the Intercampus Staff Advisory Council, collaborating with representatives from across the University of Missouri System to advocate for staff across the system.

When asked what advice he would give fellow employees, Austin encourages them to get involved and take advantage of opportunities to connect with the campus community.

“S&T has a vibrant campus community with events open to the whole campus frequently occurring. I am now a remote employee, and one of the biggest things I miss is getting to engage with the campus community,” Austin says.

Austin’s favorite productivity tip

Even as an IT professional, Austin prefers taking quick notes offline. He recommends dry-erase note cards for organizing tasks and keeping track of work. He’s also a fan of Staedtler Lumocolor Correctable pens, which provide a durable writing experience while still erasing cleanly. As a left-handed writer, he especially appreciates how they help reduce smudging.

Fun fact

Austin loves to travel and will spend nearly a month exploring Japan this October, focusing on Osaka, Tokyo and the surrounding areas. Looking ahead, he hopes to tackle an even more ambitious adventure: traveling the entire length of Japan, from Hokkaido to Okinawa.

Thank you, Austin, for your leadership, advocacy and dedication to the Missouri S&T community.
