Action may be required: Apple Accounts using @mst.edu email addresses

Starting Friday, Sept. 18, Missouri S&T now requires that all Apple Accounts (Apple IDs) using an @mst.edu email address be managed by the university. This process, called Apple Domain Capture, helps the university secure its email domain and manage Apple services used for university work.
Who is affected? Only people who created an Apple Account using their @mst.edu email address. If your Apple Account uses a personal email address, such as Gmail or iCloud, no action is needed.
What will happen? If you’re affected, you’ll receive an email from Apple (appleid@apple.com) and may see a notification on your iPhone, iPad or Mac. You’ll have until Sunday, Oct. 18, to choose one of two options:
- Keep it as a personal account (recommended for most people): Change the account’s email address to a non-university address. You keep all your photos, data, purchases, and subscriptions, and the university will not have access to your account.
- Transfer it to a work account: Only choose this if the account was created solely for university work and contains no personal data. Transfers can’t be undone, and the university will have access to data stored in the account.
What if I do nothing? After Oct. 18, Apple will automatically rename your account to a temporary address, such as jminer-mst.edu@temporary.appleaccount.com. Your data won’t be deleted, but you’ll need to sign in with the temporary address and update it yourself. Taking care of it before the deadline is much easier.
