Ph.D. student earns national Best Paper Award

Cameron Mitchell, a doctoral student in mining and explosives engineering, received the 2026 Best Paper Award from the American Rock Mechanics Association at the 60th U.S. Rock Mechanics/Geomechanics Symposium June 21-24 in Tucson, Arizona. His paper was one of six recognized from more than 400 submissions. Earlier this year, Mitchell also received the department’s Chairman’s Award for Recruitment and Outreach for his work leading tours and engaging prospective students. Mitchell’s advisor is Dr. Taghi Sherizadeh, associate professor of mining and explosives engineering.
