Dr. Daniel B. Oerther, professor of environmental engineering, co-authored the second edition of the Environmental Engineering Body of Knowledge, published by the American Academy of Environmental Engineers and Scientists. The new edition expands the “business and public administration” outcome into “decision making frameworks,” reflecting growing emphasis on environmental, social and governance investing and sustainable return on investment.
The executive summary incorporated Oerther’s updated definition of the profession as: “developing solutions to problems of planetary health.” His prior research on the care penalty as well as his formulation of environmental engineering 3.0 – extending beyond pollution control and sustainable design to address complex, global, interconnected challenges – were also incorporated in the updated edition.
