Planned network outage set for Jan. 10

The S&T IT team continues to enhance the university’s network infrastructure and is tentatively planning a major network upgrade 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10. Some network services including the internet, phones, access systems and alarms will be intermittently unavailable. The upgrade is scheduled for a low-activity day when campus is closed to minimize disruption.

Who and what is impacted?

  • All campus users including faculty, staff, researchers and students
  • Emergency systems including alarms, cameras and phones
  • Critical facilities, laboratories and campus residential spaces.

Why is this happening?

The upgrade is part of the ongoing modernization effort to create a more secure, reliable and efficient network that can better support critical systems, research operations and campus safety.

What is happening?

IT will be relocating equipment within the data center to prepare for future deployments as part of the ongoing Network Modernization Program. IT staff will monitor progress and restore services as quickly as possible.

When is it happening?

9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10

Impacted locations?

Impacts should be intermittent and limited. However, campus-wide impacts are possible.
