Missouri S&T and Mazoon College in Muscat, Oman, have partnered for over 25 years to offer degrees based on S&T curriculum in business administration, computer science, economics, English, information science and technology, management information systems, and psychology.

The institutions aim to increase collaboration, and funding has been designated to support the effort. Faculty may be unfamiliar with parallel faculty or available resources at Mazoon College that could assist in developing a proposal. Dr. Susan Murray, program director, can facilitate introductions to potential collaborators and provide more information about the college and its academic programs for faculty who are unfamiliar with parallel faculty or available resources.

Examples of potential projects include:

  • Deliver an invited presentation to a class, department, student society, center or other group
  • Match S&T and Mazoon students as pen pals or team members
  • Conduct cross-cultural research studies
  • Study abroad in either Muscat or Rolla
  • Teach online or short course offered to Mazoon students
  • Team teach for-credit courses jointly at both locations
  • Work with joint student publications like  Southwinds, a zine or Mazoon’s student publications
  • Or other creative ideas.

Examples of upcoming projects include:

  •  Dr. Clair Kueny, chair and associate professor of psychological science, reviewed capstone papers for psychological science students
  • The psychological science department invited three student groups to present via Zoom in the department colloquium.

Each associated S&T department has a designated point of contact to  facilitate introductions. If you do not know your department’s contact, reach out to Murray or your department chair. Budgets of up to $5,000 are expected. The expected timeline for proposals in response to this call will likely be less than one year, although some may be longer depending on other university requirements like study abroad ideas.

A panel that includes Drs. Cassie Elrod, Clair Kueny and Susan Murray will review proposals upon receipt. The first round of proposals should be submitted by Tuesday, March 10. Additional funding rounds will depend on the success of this initial round. Discussion with the review panel before submission is encouraged but not required. Follow-up proposals for more extensive collaboration after a successful initial project would be positively received.

The proposal format is flexible. Submissions should be sent to murray@mst.edu and must include a justification for the proposed budget.
