Schwartze earns national award for integrating science and math

Dr. Michelle Schwartze, associate teaching professor in education, received the 2025 Award for Excellence in Integrating Science and Mathematics at the annual School Science and Mathematics Association conference Nov. 13–15 in Fort Worth.

She was recognized for her work training preservice teachers in Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Launch during the STEM methods course required for early childhood, elementary and middle school education majors. Schwartze also incorporates field trips for students to teach STEM lessons they create. Her other efforts to integrate math and science in K–12 classrooms include implementing STEM lessons at the middle school level, training in-service teachers for PLTW Launch and leading a one-day conference for area PLTW Launch teachers to collaborate.
