Missouri S&T is introducing the STAR (supportive, timely, attentive and respectful) Certification Program to recognize instructors who demonstrate exceptional commitment to student success. This program highlights faculty who incorporate practices that foster clear communication, transparency and respect in their courses.
To earn STAR certification, instructors must meet at least nine of 13 criteria, such as using Canvas for course materials, providing timely feedback, offering flexible office hours and maintaining transparent grading policies. Certification applies to a specific course and lasts for three years. Faculty may earn STAR designation for multiple courses.
The program is open to all instructors, including adjunct faculty, and is overseen by the associate provost for teaching and curricular excellence and the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE).
