Missouri S&T has named Joni Burch, Ed.D., as the new residential life director. In this role, she will report to Dr. Robin Gore, vice chancellor for student success. Burch brings extensive experience in student housing and a strong commitment to building residential environments where students feel supported, connected and ready to thrive.
In her first year, Burch will guide the development of a clear mission and strategic plan for residential life, aligning with the university’s North Star Goals and student success priorities. She also plans to strengthen the department’s presence across campus through intentional outreach, renewed visibility in the residence halls, and deeper collaboration with faculty, staff and campus partners.
Burch aims to cultivate a residential experience that serves as both a key support network and a strong source of belonging for every Miner. She plans to expand academic and campus partnerships – particularly through Miner Move-In, living-learning communities and coordinated efforts with student success units – to strengthen the connection between students’ academic and residential lives.
“As we continue to elevate the student experience, Dr. Burch’s leadership will be instrumental in shaping a vibrant, supportive residential community,” says Gore. “Her student-centered approach and commitment to collaboration will help ensure our residence halls remain a place where Miners feel welcomed, encouraged and able to succeed.” A first-generation college student, Burch says her work is rooted in ensuring students feel seen, valued and empowered. “I want every student to know they have someone in their corner,” she says. “That sense of belonging can transform their entire journey.”
