We are seeing an increase in bike and scooter thefts on campus, particularly when they are not secured to a bike rack with a lock. Our campus surveillance cameras often capture these incidents, but many thefts are reported several hours later, giving suspects a significant head start.
This week, University Police arrested an individual for stealing a bike and a scooter and were able to return a scooter to its owner. However, additional thefts continue to occur.
Please remind students, faculty and staff to secure their bikes and scooters to designated racks using a lock that matches the value of their property. If anyone sees suspicious activity near a bike rack—or someone using tools to cut a lock—they should immediately contact University Police.
