This fall, the Mentor Collective first-year experience program continued to strengthen student success and belonging through meaningful peer connections. A total of 445 first-year students were matched with 116 trained mentors, helping new Miners navigate their transition to Missouri S&T. Together, participants logged 475 mentoring conversations and exchanged 3,099 peer-to-peer text messages – which demonstrates the value of accessible, real-time support.
Among the 330 mentees who completed the program survey, the top goals were clear:
These goals highlight the ambition and drive of S&T’s newest students, as well as the role peer mentors play in helping them build confidence, balance and academic momentum.
Looking ahead, S&T is expanding the reach of mentorship. On Oct.1, Student Success launched Gear Up: Career Mentoring, a new Mentor Collective initiative focused on helping juniors and seniors connect classroom learning to career goals through alumni and professional mentorship. This next step reinforces S&T’s commitment to making mentorship a central part of the Miner experience, from the first semester through career launch.
The Student Success division will continue to invest in mentorship as a cornerstone of the student experience at S&T, to ensure every student has the support, guidance and encouragement they need to thrive.
