Dr. Grace Yan, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, presented a keynote address at the 7th Global Summit of the Global Alliance for Disaster Resilience Institute, held in July in Fort Collins, Colorado. The international conference convenes leading researchers in hazards and disaster resilience from around the world to share advancements in the field.

Yan’s keynote, titled “Dance in Harmony with the Twister: One Step Back and Two Steps Forward toward Tornado Resilience,” highlighted findings from four ongoing National Science Foundation projects and additional research. She emphasized the importance of fundamental, transdisciplinary approaches to mitigating the societal impact of natural hazards, with a focus on tornadoes.
