What’s your role at S&T?

I work in the international student services office as the acting director international students with their visa process and have been with S&T for three years as of Aug. 1.

What inspired you to join Staff Council?

I actually didn’t expect to be part of Staff Council when I signed up to run. I thought “no way!” My inspiration to join was based on my experience with other staff. We truly are an S&T family. We look out for and care for one another!

What is your role in Staff Council, and what responsibilities does it involve?

Chair of the Communications Committee. I help with Staff Council newsletters, our monthly meetings and overall other communication needs.

What advice would you give someone just starting at S&T?

Explore! There are so many cool programs and activities that you can participate in. Attend meetings, attend events and I promise you’ll get connected with others and have a blast!

What’s one thing you absolutely must have at your desk and why?

I have a pen that a student gave to me when he first arrived, and I helped him through his first few days. It had his country, and the United States pinned together showing love and support to each other just as he experienced from me. I cannot imagine not having that to look at on my desk on hard days.

What’s something about you that most people don’t know – whether it’s unique, unexpected or just a little quirky?

I have 50% hearing loss in my left ear. My right ear makes up for the hearing loss so when people talk to me it’s not really a “hard of hearing” kind of situation but I do have a hard time when people try to get my attention by talking from behind me.
