Dr. Ayodeji Alajo, associate professor of nuclear engineering and radiation science, is partnering with Oak Ridge National Laboratory on a $1 million U.S. Department of Energy project to study how a nuclear fuel with a high enrichment level will perform in small modular and microreactors.

Alajo is contributing to research on small modular and microreactors designed for long-term use in remote or high-risk environments, including military bases and space missions. These reactors require higher-enriched fuel than current commercial reactors. His work helps demonstrate that the fuel performs safely and predictably under various conditions, supporting future reactor design and regulation.
