Watch for Nudge pop-ups on campus Apple computers

Who is impacted?

Users of S&T-owned Apple computers.

What is changing?

The IT team deployed a new tool, called Nudge, that sends you to Apple’s built-in software update tool to install the latest updates. There are no outside links.

Why?

All S&T systems face ongoing security threats. Nudge helps protect campus-managed Apple computers by prompting timely software updates and patch installations. Regular updates keep devices secure, safeguard campus data and ensure compliance with audit requirements.

When is this happening?

Nudge is now active and may already appear on your Apple computer. Reminders will increase as the patch deadline approaches, and after the deadline, Nudge will continually prompt in front of other apps until the update is complete.

What actions are required?

When the Nudge window appears, click the update button in the upper-right of the window. That opens System Settings → General → Software Update so you can install required patches.

If you still have time left in the deferral period, you can click Continue below the reading pane and choose when to be reminded. Then Nudge will snooze until your chosen time.

Plan for about an hour, plug in, make sure you have 30–40 GB free space, and back up important files to OneDrive before you start.
