MacOS 13 support is ending

What is happening?

Apple is ending support for macOS 13 (Ventura), so it will no longer be supported on campus systems.

Why?

Apple released macOS 26 today (Monday, Sept. 15) and only provides security updates for the three most recent versions, so macOS 13 is outside Apple’s security coverage. Aligning with Apple’s policy helps keep campus Macs secure and our tools reliable.

When?

Support ends on Monday, Sept. 22. As with all major releases, the IT team applies a brief deferral before the new OS appears in the software update. For beta testers, macOS 26 will be available Thursday, Sept. 18. It will be available to the rest of campus on Sept. 22.

What actions are required?

Check for an upgrade to your macOS by following this path: System Settings → General → Software Update.

Before Sept. 22, you’ll be offered macOS 15 (or macOS 14 if your Mac doesn’t support 15). Starting Sept. 22 (Sept. 18 for beta testers), software upgrades will target macOS 26. Plug in, set aside about an hour, ensure 30–40 GB free, and back up important files to OneDrive.
