Federal agencies are stepping up efforts to safeguard the U.S. research enterprise. Starting Friday, Oct. 10, the National Science Foundation will require all senior and key personnel on proposals to complete research security training within 12 months prior to submission. Similarly, the Department of Energy has enforced its own training requirement for covered individuals on research and development proposals as of May 1.

Both agencies recognize the SECURE Center Consolidated Training Module as compliant, though institutions may use other training that meets the standards outlined in the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. Required topics include cybersecurity, foreign interference, international collaboration, disclosure and conflicts of interest/commitment. Missouri S&T has updated its research security training page with guidance and resources to help you meet these new federal requirements. Stay informed, stay compliant.
