In April 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice published a new rule under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act that requires public higher education institutions to ensure digital content is accessible by April 24, 2026.

Building on previous offerings, these new training sessions will go deeper into accessibility features now available in Canvas, including Ally and TidyUp. Whether you’re new to these tools or looking to explore advanced functionality, this training will equip you with practical strategies for improving digital content accessibility.

General topics include:

  • Why digital accessibility matters for students, faculty and staff
  • Using Ally and TidyUp to evaluate and improve Canvas course content
  • Color contrast and readability best practices
  • Writing effective alternative (ALT) text for images
  • Creating accessible PDFs and Microsoft Office documents
  • Additional tools and tips for creating inclusive digital content

Sessions:

  • 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18, online and in-person
  • 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, online and in-person

These sessions are open to all faculty and staff who design course materials, manage web content, or support administrative functions. Each session provides actionable steps to make your work more accessible for everyone.
