The S&T Tornado Wonders Team, led by Dr. Grace Yan, professor of structural engineering and director of the Center for Hazard Mitigation and Community Resilience and the Wind Hazard Mitigation Laboratory (WHAM), conducted a full-scale tornado damage survey on May 16 following severe storms in St. Louis.

The assessment focused on tornado-city interactions and collected data along the 23-mile damage path to advance wind engineering research. The tornado resulted in seven fatalities and damage to approximately 5,000 buildings. Data from the survey will be used to inform future research and support efforts to improve tornado preparedness and community resilience.
