Smith delivers plenary at 2025 Laufer Energy Symposium

Dr. Joseph Smith, professor of chemical and biochemical engineering and president of the American Institute of Chemical Engineering (AlChE), presented the opening plenary address at the Fourth International Laufer Energy Symposium on Wednesday, May 7, in Marrakech, Morocco. His presentation, titled “The International Role of AIChE and Its Future Outlook,” highlighted the global impact of the organization and addressed strategies to advance energy solutions and reduce energy poverty, with a particular focus on Africa.

In addition to his plenary address, Smith chaired a roundtable discussion on hydrogen, energy transition and decarbonization. The roundtable brought together researchers and industry professionals to explore advancements in hydrogen production, the integration of new technologies for clean energy, and pathways to achieving significant reductions in carbon emissions.
