Dr. Vadym Mochalin, associate professor of chemisty, published a new study in the Royal Society of Chemistry journal Nanoscale. The article, titled “Formation of Hydrocarbons and Carbon Oxides in Mxene Reactions with Water Under Varying Oxidative Conditions,” explores the chemical reactivity of two-dimensional transition metal carbides and carbonitrides (MXenes) with water.
The research examines the formation of gaseous products, including methane and higher hydrocarbons, during MXene hydrolysis under different oxidative conditions. This work represents a significant advancement in understanding the fundamental chemical properties of low-dimensional materials and contributes to Mochalin’s ongoing research program at Missouri S&T.
