Mining engineering Ph.D. student receives SME scholarship

Aamir Iqbal, a Ph.D. student in the mining and explosives engineering, won the 2025 McPherson-Marks-Greuer Ventilation Scholarship from the Coal and Energy Division of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME).

Iqbal, who conducts research under the guidance of Dr. Guang Xu, received the scholarship established in 2014 to honor renowned ventilation experts Dr. Malcolm J. McPherson, John R. Marks and Dr. Rudolf Greuer. The scholarship aims to advance mine ventilation technology and improve the safety and health of underground miners through education and research in mining engineering.
