The S&T ADVANCE program will offer S&T faculty a one-day mentor training program led by the University of Wisconsin’s Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER), a national leader in academic mentor training.
Professionals from CIMER will lead this all-day, in-person training at S&T on Monday, Aug. 11. The program, Entering Mentoring, is an evidence-based, interactive training curriculum that engages mentors of all career stages in collective problem solving and connects them with resources to optimize their mentoring practices. By the end of the training, mentors will have articulated their personal style and philosophy of mentoring and strategies they can use when faced with difficult mentoring situations.
This training session will focus largely on skills for mentoring early career faculty, but the skills and strategies will also apply to mentoring graduate students and post-doctoral fellows.
To apply, please fill out this Qualtrics survey by 5 p.m. Monday, May 5. All full-time S&T faculty are eligible to apply. Seating is limited. Please apply only if you can commit to attending the entire one-day session, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11. Lunch will be provided.
Participants will receive a $200 stipend paid into their faculty support accounts and a certificate of completion from CIMER. Faculty who complete this training will be eligible for future, more advanced CIMER mentor training opportunities .
