Researcher wins prize for poster presentation at SME conference

Ellen Amoako Afful, a doctoral student in mining engineering, was awarded a $1,000 prize for a research poster that was presented Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, at the Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Conference in Tucson, Arizona. Advised by Dr. Guang Xu, the Robert H. Quenon Associate Professor of Mining and Explosives Engineering, Afful’s poster was titled “Optimizing the impact of Organic Solvent and Surfactant on Acid Mist Suppression in an Electrowinning System.”
