Dr. Joel Burken, Curators’ Distinguished Professor and Mathes Endowed Chair in civil, architectural and environmental engineering, gave opening remarks and led a panel discussion with freshmen state senators to kick off Engineer’s Day at the Missouri Capitol on Wednesday, Feb. 5. The event is coordinated by the Missouri chapters of the American Council of Engineering Companies, American Public Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers and Missouri Society of Professional Engineers. The purpose of this day is to educate legislators on the important and diverse roles that engineers play in our community, and to increase presence and voice in the public policy process. Burken and S&T students joined to meet with state legislators and Governor Mike Kehoe.
