The University Libraries have entered Missouri S&T’s first ever open access transformative publishing agreement with Springer Nature. This agreement is made possible through the Greater Western Library Alliance, a consortium, that includes the UM System Libraries.

Under the agreement, primary or corresponding faculty publishing in Springer Nature hybrid journals will be able to publish up to 41 articles in total with no article processing charge (APC) fees. This number was arrived at based on the number of S&T articles published by faculty last year plus 5%. The list of hybrid journals includes 2,041 titles, and the average APC per article is $3,810.

Faculty submitting articles will see a welcome message that informs them that they are eligible for APC coverage under the transformative agreement and should follow prompts.

If all 41 article allowances are used, the University Libraries will decline further requests, and faculty should apply to the Subvention Program to help cover APCs.
