The S&T Architectural Engineering Institute student chapter poses with their CANstruction models in the atrium of Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall.

Participating in S&T’s Staff Council food and toy drive, the civil, architectural and environmental engineering department collected more than 4,500 food items, beating the previous department record of 3,100 items. Students entered the Architectural Engineering Institute’s national CANstruction student competition building three models completely out of the donated food items – a Christmas tree, Santa’s sleigh and a three-car train.

“We are already looking forward to next year’s CANstruction build and hope to break the donation record again,” says Rachel Winingear, a senior studying architectural engineering and president of S&T’s AEI student chapter.

In addition to canned food items, the department also collected 30 toys and 40 personal care items.
