Tuhin Das, Gaurav Khairnar and Shruti Majumdar (shown from left) won the 31st annual Schearer Prize for graduate research in physics. The competition is held in memory of Laird D. Schearer, the department’s first Curators’ Distinguished Professor of physics, and rewards graduate students for outstanding research performed during their graduate studies.

First prize went to Khairnar for his project titled “Can Helicity Modulus Be Defined For Boundary Conditions With Finite Twist?” Second prizes were awarded to Tuhin Das for his research on “Temperature–Dependent Dielectric Function of Calcium Fluoride (CaF2): Infrared and Ultraviolet Contributions,” and to Shruti Majumdar for her research titled “Multiply Differential Study of Vibrational Dissociative Capture in p + D2 Collisions.”
