Dr. Joshua Schlegel, associate professor and associate chair of academics for nuclear engineering and radiation science, has received a 2024 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching. This award is presented each year to one faculty member at each participating public institution of higher education in Missouri. The awards are based on effective teaching, innovative course design and delivery, effective advising, service to the university community, commitment to high standards of excellence, and success in nurturing student achievement.

Schlegel teaches undergraduate and graduate courses, including Reactor Fluid Mechanics, Reactor Heat Transfer, Nuclear Systems Design I and Advanced Nuclear Thermal Hydraulics. His design of team-based and problem-based courses contributed to his 2023 Faculty Teaching Award.

Schlegel will be formally recognized at Missouri S&T’s annual faculty awards banquet on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
