Dr. Vadym Mochalin, associate professor of chemistry, and colleagues from Warsaw University of Technology in Poland and Tulane University authored a paper titled “Microwave-Assisted Hydrothermal Synthesis of Photocatalytic Truncated-Bipyramidal TiO2/Ti3CN Heterostructures Derived from Ti3CN MXene,” in the American Chemical Society journal, Langmuir.

The paper describes one-step environmentally friendly synthesis of nitrogen doped nanocrystalline titania for photocatalytic applications using the energy of visible sunlight to decompose organic contaminants in water. Mochalin’s group is made up of international leaders in chemistry of MXenes, which were recently recognized by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry among the top 10.
