ISC poster presentation winners announced

Twenty graduate students and one undergraduate student participated in the 19th annual Intelligent Systems Center (ISC) poster presentation on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Havener Center.

The winners and the names of their posters are:

  • First place: Ganesh Sapkota, advised by Dr. Sanjay Madria, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of computer science, “SafeNav: Safe Navigation using Landmark Based Localization in a GPS-denied Environment.”
  • Second place: Insha Yaqoob Sheikh, advised by Dr. Jagannathan Sarangapani, Rutledge-Emerson Distinguished Professor of electrical engineering, “Monocular Underwater Depth Estimation using DenseNet-UNET.”
  • Third place: Wazih Tausif, advised by Dr. Zhi Liang, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, “Water Droplet Evaporation in Air: Effects of Interfacial Thermal and Mass Diffusion Resistance.”

Each student was presented an award certificate from Dr. Frank Liou, director of ISC, and Dr. Sanjay Madria, the poster presentation chair. The first-place winner received $600, the second-place winner received $300 and the third-place winner received $150.

The annual poster presentation, funded by the Intelligent Systems Center, offers students the opportunity to present their research results. The guest speaker for the awards ceremony was Dr. Kamal Khayat, vice chancellor for Research and Innovation.
