Amateur astronomers are invited to observe the skies through the 16-inch telescope at the Missouri S&T Observatory. Weather permitting, the S&T Astronomical Research Society (STARS) will host free viewings throughout the fall semester.

Six upcoming viewings are planned for the fall:

  • The moon – 8:45-11:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14
  • Saturn – 8:30-11:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27
  • Hercules Cluster – 8-11 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25
  • Pleiades Cluster – 7-10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8
  • Jupiter – 6:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22
  • Andromeda Galaxy – 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6.

These viewings are free and open to the public; no reservation or ticket is required. Children are welcome at the observatory, but they must be accompanied by an adult. Visitors must be able to climb a small set of stairs to reach the telescope.
