Dr. Kathleen Sheppard, professor of history and political science, has a new book, Women in the Valley of the Kings: The Untold Story of Women Egyptologists in the Gilded Age (St. Martin’s Press), which was published July 16. The launch event, part of the Westfall Series, was held at the St. Louis County Library’s new Clark Family Branch. In conversation with UMSL Egyptologist Dr. Anne Austin, Sheppard talked about the book, her inspiration for writing it, and answered questions from Austin and the audience. Sheppard signed copies of her book afterwards.
The book is included on Town & Country’s 39 Must-Read Books of Summer 2024 and has been reviewed in the New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
