Summer is a great time to upgrade Windows 10 computers that can have Windows 11 installed. In the next few weeks, S&T’s information technology team will email owners of Windows 10 computers that can be upgraded.
All users with campus-managed computers running Windows 10.
Microsoft will end its support for Windows 10 in 2025. IT is working with departments to identify computers that can be upgraded to Windows 11 now. Any campus-managed computer running Windows 10 after May 2025 may experience a service disruption.
After the upgrade is complete, your computer will run a supportable Windows 11 operating system.
In 2023, IT began focusing efforts and communicating to employees about the transition to the Windows 11 operating system for campus computers to be compliant with UM System Information Security policies and guidelines. In fall 2025, Microsoft will no longer support the Windows 10 operating system.
As of Thursday, June 6, IT has been able to update or replace computers to achieve 71% conversion to Windows 11.
At the beginning of the year, IT started coordinating efforts by working directly with departments to identify old computers that need to be replaced. Information was also provided about an opportunity to participate in a Dell bulk buy to purchase new computers at a discounted price. The IT team plans to have another Dell bulk buy opportunity this fall. Look for future communications so you can participate in this opportunity to make sure all computers are ready for Windows 11.
