Dr. Wayne Bledsoe, professor emeritus of history and political science, passed away Sunday, June 2, at age 83. He joined Missouri S&T as an assistant professor in 1968 and was named professor in 1982. He also served as chair of history and political science for four years. He was named professor emeritus in 2004.
In 1975, Wayne established the campus archives at S&T, a repository for the campus’s historical, legal and cultural records. A long-time bluegrass music enthusiast, he hosted a bluegrass show on S&T’s public radio station, KUMR (later renamed KMST), in 1979 after volunteering at the station for over a decade. For nearly four decades, he produced and hosted “Bluegrass for a Saturday Night,” followed by “Sunday Morning Sounds.” At its peak, the Saturday night show attracted over 200,000 listeners weekly, both live and online.
