Student well-being staff present at Meeting of the Minds

Members of S&T’s student well-being team recently attended Meeting of the Minds, an annual health, safety and well-being conference designed to help campus professionals address the critical health behaviors of university students. Many staff members presented at the conference and Missouri S&T went home with a few awards.

The student well-being team gave the following presentations:

  • “Accommodating the Increasing Demand for Mental Health Services by Using a Personalized Care Model,” presented by Jessica Gargus, director, and Lynne Davidson, assistant director.
  • “Empowering Peer Intervention in Residential and Greek Life at Missouri S&T: The STEP UP! Program Impact,” presented by Simran Bhatia, organizational health education specialist, and Angel Springer, peer wellness educator.
  • “The Importance of Connecting with Incoming Students and Their Families in Substance Use Prevention,” presented by Stephanie Murray-Miller, health educator, and Emily Griesenauer, peer wellness educator.
  • “We’re All in This Together: Advancing Student Well-being through Health Promotion Strategies and Collective Leadership,” presented by Bhatia, alongside colleagues Dr. C. Oliver Tacto, Maryville University of St. Louis; Andrea L. Kimura, University of Missouri-Columbia and Arie Baker, Washington University in St. Louis.
  • “Joe’s PEERS Black Bag Project: On-Campus Sexual Health Resource Distribution,” presented by Trin Tatro, peer wellness educator.
  • “Public Health Minded Prevention and Peer Education Initiatives: Addressing Alarming Substance Use in Sexual and Gender Minority College Students,” presented by Austin Thrasher, peer wellness educator.

Awards included:

  • Simran Bhatia and Stephanie Murray-Miller received Outstanding Professional awards.
  • Austin Thrasher and Emily Griesenauer received Outstanding Student/Peer Educator awards.
  • S&T’s Mental Well-Being Awareness Week program received the Outstanding Campus Program award.
