In 2023, S&T information technology began focusing efforts and communicating to campus about the transition to Windows 11 operating system for campus computers to be compliant with UM System Information Security policies and guidelines. In fall 2025, Microsoft will no longer support the Windows 10 operating system.
As of Wednesday, March 13, IT has been able to update or replace computers to achieve 64% conversion to Windows 11.
At the beginning of the year, IT started coordinating efforts working with departments to identify old computers that need to be replaced. Information was also provided about an opportunity to participate in a Dell bulk buy to purchase new Windows 11 computers at a discounted price. IT appreciates the time and interaction with each department that it has met with so far and looks forward to helping S&T get closer to 100% successful conversion of campus computers to Windows 11.
S&T IT plans to continue visits and communications with the remaining departments and plans another Dell bulk buy for September. The Dell bulk buy opportunities are available and open to all departments on campus to make purchases.
To learn more about the Dell bulk buy, visit IT website. The current Dell bulk buy opportunity to purchase new Windows 11 computers will close on Friday, April 5.
