On Saturday evening, April 20, the Christ Episcopal Church’s Fellowship Hall hosted the 22nd Annual PoetSpeak evening in Rolla, an event that presented the literary talents of regional poets and writers. Organized by Arts Rolla and Missouri Arts Council, the evening brought together an appreciative audience eager to immerse themselves in the beauty and wisdom of words.

Hosted by Dr. Jerry Cohen, the event featured esteemed writers and poets: Patti Dewing, Michael Dowdy, Marilyn Hanchett, Brenda Linkeman, Lucille Myers, Ross Channing Reed, Molly Remer, Greg Story and Abdullah Al Moinee. Moinee, a doctoral student in chemical engineering, presented two of his poems, “Journey towards Oneness” and “Sense Beyond Senses.”

Moinee’s recitation at PoetSpeak inspired deep introspection among attendees. He paid tribute to Sudarshan Sarker and dedicated lines of his life to honor his wife, Morium Jebun. As the winner of Missouri S&T’s 150th Anniversary Poetry and Writing Contest, Moinee’s “Mission of a Miner” was published in Southwinds and sealed in the university’s time capsule.

Moinee dedicated and devoted lines of life to honor his wife Morium Jebun, expressing gratitude for her presence at PoetSpeak as “I am touched by the blessed soul living inside, this is how one exists for me from the sky to the land – as a mirror of the universe: as my single verse.”
