The University Police Department, Student Well-Being, and Strategic Diversity Initiatives are hosting a Denim Day Panel on Apr. 24, at 5 p.m. as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Week.
The Denim Day Panel is inspired by the international Denim Day campaign that began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court. A rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
At the event, the panelists will discuss their roles should a report of a sexual assault occur. Some of the departments/organizations featured on the panel are Rolla Police Department, University Police, Russell House, Phelps Health, Student Well-Being, Student Heath, Student Support and Community Standards, Equity/Title IX, and more.
All are welcome to attend, and dinner is provided to all attendees. The event will be held on April 24th at the Havener Center in St. Pat’s A & B.
