A student was playing in an intramural basketball game when he collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. Lucas Stone, a student supervisor in the athletic department and a senior in engineering management, ran to the student and immediately began CPR while other student staffers gathered the automated external defibrillator (AED), called 911, and found professional help.
Lucas performed emergency first-aid, buying time for emergency medical personnel to arrive. His quick reaction brought oxygen back into the injured student’s body and the student breathed and regained consciousness after the AED was used.
“It cannot be overstated that Lucas Stone saved another student’s life through his immediate action,” says Ethan Stencil, student recreation manager.
