Dr. Sandra Magnus, National Academy of Engineering member and former NASA astronaut, was elevated to an eminent member in the IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) honor society at the IEEE Educational Activities Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C., in November. Since 1950, “eminent member” has the designation of the highest member category of the honor society. Only 144 individuals have been recognized for their technical career accomplishments with this designation.
Magnus received a bachelor’s degree in physics in 1986 and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from S&T in 1990. She also earned a Ph.D. in engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1996. She was inducted into the Missouri S&T HKN chapter as a professional member in 2011. Eta Kappa Nu is the honor society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
